Pub Crawl

The idea of this blog is quite simple - I am no beer aficionado and there are plenty of people out there who can write about beer much better than I could so .....

..... the idea of this blog is to write a bit about beer but, more than that, to have pages dedicated to good pubs, selling good beer, in locations across the world. How is that going to happen? Well, I live in Bedford and will write a page about the pubs I like in the town on page called 'Bedford Pub Crawl'. People will be invited to similarly write about pubs where they live under a similar heading eg Burton Pub Crawl, Sheffield Pub Crawl etc. What do you think? It will take a while to get going, I think, but if you would like to contribute why not message me?

Burton Pub Crawl

Burton Pub Crawl

The Coopers - no pumps, just barrels behind the bar. Thought to be the best pub in Burton by many.

Used to be that the whole of the town was covered by buildings like these ... testament to a brewing industry that continued for centuries ....

Now the town looks like it's covered in giant cans of lager .... well, Coors to be more exact ... don't know a soul that drinks the stuff ......

Fortunately there still some good pubs in the town .... I'm not suggesting the ones shown here are the best ......

....and even more fortunate is the fact that the tradition for brewing quality beer has been continued by the likes of Burton Bridge Brewery  ...

So, the Coopers Tavern .... mainstay is Joule's - pronounce it however you want - but always a good range of beers served straight from the barrel. Usually quite busy and a very friendly atmosphere - definitely one to try if your in the town.

The Leopard - used to be good back in the day .... been tarted up now and haven't been in for a while so not sure what it's like now .......

The Dog - I've been assured that this is a good 'un. A good selection of beers and ciders .....

The Crossing ... definitely worth a visit. Good food, too.

Burton Bridge Brewery .... at the town end of the old bridge over the Trent .... been going for a while now .... another is the Tower Brewery and they hire out the place for parties ... can personally vouch for that as a great venue ..... Marston's is still around, of course ...

The Duke of York, Victoria Street. There seemed to be a pub on every street corner  in Burton.... many are closing their doors now, although conversely there seems to be an increase of micro-pubs opening everywhere ..... guess a few barrels behind a counter in a cheap to rent small building makes it more affordable .... for how long ......? Who knows.

The Old Cottage Tavern ... another good one ......

This is only a small selection of the pubs around Burton on Trent ..... if anybody would like to comment or add more info please get in touch.
